CALL FOR SCORES

MotoContrario Ensemble is very excited to announce its second call for scores.

For the first edition of the call we received over 400 works from more than 40 different countries; five pieces have been chosen and performed in the winner concert during the last edition of the Festival. Other two pieces have been performed in different appointments of the Festival.

Guidelines for submission:

– Applicants may be of any nationality and age.

– Applicants may submit only one work.

– Submitted works must not exceed 15 minutes of duration.

Instrumentation:

  • 1 trumpet (single performer, including flugelhorn, piccolo trumpet, cornet)

  • 1 saxophone (single performer, including sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone)

  • 1 viola (single performer)

  • 1 piano (one or two performers)

  • percussion (single performer; available instruments: marimba (4.3 octave), vibraphone, glockenspiel, 2 susp.cymb., 5 temple bl., snare drum, bongos, congas)

  • tape – live electronics (a maximum of 4 loudspeakers is available, already implemented patches are welcome, max msp is preferred, pd and supercollider are also accepted. Technical data sheets are required!).

We accept pieces for solo instrument or mixed ensemble (from 2 to 6 instruments)

Deadline: January 31, 2016 (CET 11.59pm)

Fee: No fee

The selected pieces will be performed in a dedicated concert of the 3rd edition of Festival Contrasti, that will have place in the spring of 2016 in Trento, Italy; other pieces will be considered for different occasions.

All submissions should be sent via email to callforscores@motocontrario.it with the subject heading “Contrasti 2016 – Call For Scores – Your Name” and should include a link (Dropbox, Google Drive, WeTransfer, etc) to the following files:

  • PDF score;
  • MP3 recording (not mandatory – MIDI realizations are acceptable);

  • curriculum vitae;
  • contact details;

All parts must be sent a week after the selection.

2016 CALL FOR SCORES

RESULTS

Dear all,

MotoContrario is pleased to announce the winning scores of the 2016 Call for Scores.

We have received more than 200 works from all over the world: we are sincerely pleased as for the result and the worldwide attention to our project. We would also like to thank all the composers who submitted their pieces and we are very impressed as for the high quality of the works we have received.

We have selected the following seven works which will be be performed on 19th March 2016 in the concert dedicated to the winners of the “Call for scores” in the festival “Contrasti”.

Other two pieces have been selected for other scheduled concerts:

Gísladóttir, BáraRooftops of Barcelona for Tenor Saxophone and electronics – 20th February

RISULTATI

L’associazione MotoContrario è lieta di annunciare i pezzi vincitori della sua Call for Scores.

Abbiamo ricevuto più di 200 spartiti da tutto il mondo e siamo decisamente soddisfatti sia dei risultati che dell’attenzione mostrata alla nostra iniziativa a livello internazionale. Vorremmo dunque ringraziare tutti i compositori che, anno dopo anno, contribuiscono a questo progetto. La qualità che è emersa dalle partiture è stata molto alta ed abbiamo anche avuto l’opportunità di apprezzare le diverse modalità espressive con cui, al giorno d’oggi, i diversi compositori si dedicano alla loro arte.

Abbiamo selezionato sette pezzi che verranno eseguiti il 19 marzo 2016 in un concerto interamente dedicato ai vincitori della Call for Scores all’interno del festival Contrasti:
