Ensemble Nuove Musiche The Ensemble Nuove Musiche Association was founded in Savona and immediately stood out for its specific, though not exclusive, focus on composers of the past century and the one that has just begun. It achieves this through original juxtapositions of the music of the great Western tradition with the most recent artistic experiences, traversing the various phases of modernity. A substantial part of the association’s operations is carried out through the activities of its own instrumental ensemble. Over the years, it has performed in major themed concert series such as Nuova Consonanza in Rome, the Festival de Arte Sacro in Madrid, the Days of Macedonian Music in Skopje, the Ponchielli Festival in Cremona, the Giordano Festival in Baveno, and the summer season of the Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan. Among its most significant concerts are those held by the Ensemble in Tallinn (House of the Blackheads), Boston (Sanders Theatre at Harvard University), Washington (Auditorium of the Italian Cultural Institute – Embassy of Italy), Philadelphia (Caplan Center of Performing Arts), Chicago (Logan Center for the Arts), Busseto (Teatro Verdi), and Piacenza (Sala dei Teatini).

Michela Marchiana began studying the violin at the age of 11 with Simona De Rossi. In 2010, she entered the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome, where she graduated in Violin in 2018 under the guidance of Gualtiero Tambè. In 2024, she earned a Master’s Degree in Musicology from La Sapienza University of Rome, and in 2025, a second-level Academic Diploma in Viola from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory with Luca Sanzò. She is currently a PhD student in Music, Design, Art, Territories at the “Giulio Briccialdi” Conservatory. Since 2017, she has been a founding member of the music magazine Quinte Parallele, and since 2020, of the publishing house Ermes404. She has contributed to musicological publications, including Bach: Concerti Brandeburghesi. Dentro la musica for Carocci, and has published articles, essays, program notes, and booklets. She has played with several Italian orchestral organizations, including the Benevento Philharmonic Orchestra, OPV – Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, the Colibrì Ensemble, and the Bologna Teatro Comunale Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2023, she participated in the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy with the Cluster Ensemble and won the contemporary music competition Young People Play Petrassi. With the viola, she has taken part in numerous orchestral productions and in the Suonarchiviola initiative of the Italian Viola Association. Since 2024, she has been a member of the Ensemble Forma Libera, performing contemporary music concerts, participating in the Modena Contemporanea Festival, and recording for the Tactus label. Recent projects include the premiere of Riccardo Perugini’s Il pellegrino del nulla and concerts dedicated to Luigi Nono, Kaija Saariaho, and Pauline Oliveros.

Pianist, composer, and conductor Luca Benatti is particularly dedicated to popularizing 20th-century and contemporary repertoires. A student of Pinuccia Giarmanà and Riccardo Zadra, he is the co-founder of Ensemble Forma Libera and a professor of Piano Practice and Reading at the Vecchi-Tonelli Conservatory in Modena. Since 2023, he has been the artistic curator for the Modena branch of the Gioventù Musicale d’Italia Foundation, and since 2024, a promoter of the Modena Contemporanea Festival. He also carries out intense educational and outreach activities, collaborating with institutions such as the Mantua Chamber Orchestra, the I Teatri Foundation of Reggio Emilia, and the Teatro Pavarotti-Freni Foundation of Modena. In 2021, he debuted on Classica HD with the program Ascolti dallo studio, dedicated to living Italian composers. As a pianist, he regularly performs at contemporary music festivals, including Traiettorie, Le Strade del Suono, Festival Piatti, Exitime, and Istantanea Festival. As a composer, he trained with Emanuela Ballio, Antonio Giacometti, and Fabio Vacchi, earning recognition in several national competitions. His works have been performed at festivals and institutions such as the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano, Gioventù Musicale, and the Teatro Pavarotti Foundation. In 2019, he composed the stage music for Roberto Mercadini’s Vita di Leonardo, commissioned by the Teatro Stabile d’Abruzzo. He refined his conducting skills with Gilberto Serembe, Harold Farberman, Michail Jurowski, Dominique Rouits, and Arturo Tamayo, conducting works such as Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis and Arvo Pärt’s Passio Domini Nostri Jesu Secundum Joannem.

Cosimo Linoci graduated in 2003 from the “O. Vecchi – A. Tonelli” Institute of Musical Studies in Modena under the guidance of Corrado Giuffredi. At the same institution, he earned a second-level Academic Diploma in Clarinet with top marks. He later deepened his knowledge of the chamber music repertoire with Pierpaolo Maurizzi at the “A. Boito” Conservatory in Parma, where he obtained a second-level Academic Diploma in Chamber Music in 2016. In 2018, he also earned a second-level Academic Master’s Degree in Clarinet from the “Bruno Maderna” Conservatory in Cesena. He pursued further studies with Fabrizio Meloni, Larry Combs, Sharon Kam, and Carlo Palermo. Winner of numerous national and international competitions, including the “Città di Pesaro” International Competition and the “R. Viani” International Clarinet Competition, he has collaborated with major orchestral organizations such as the Teatro Regio in Parma and the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic, also qualifying for positions at the Teatro alla Scala. He maintains an intense chamber music and concert schedule at festivals and institutions such as the Festival delle Nazioni, Bologna Festival, the Vedova Foundation, and the Teatro Comunale di Modena. Some of his performances have been broadcast by Rai Radio3, Rai5, and Radio Toscana Classica. In 2023, he was invited by the Vidin Sinfonietta to perform Mozart’s Concerto KV 622. Particularly active in the field of 20th-century and contemporary music, he recorded the album Très libre for Movimento Classical and a monographic album dedicated to Diego Conti for the Tactus label. He has been teaching in Italian conservatories since 2006 and is currently a clarinet professor at the “A. Vivaldi” Conservatory in Alessandria.
