MotoContrario ensemble is a collective with a flexible line-up open to diverse contributions, leading it to tackle repertoires ranging from duos to large ensembles. This approach has allowed them to handle premieres and Italian first performances of pieces by composers from all over the world.
In addition to works by composers from the early and late 20th century, the ensemble has curated performances (including world premieres) of pieces by various living contemporary composers, such as Francisco Quintero, Andrea Nicoli, Karlheinz Essl, Fausto Sebastiani, Antonio Agostini, Giorgio Colombo Taccani, José Sánchez-Verdú, César Camarero, Pierluigi Billone, Stefano Gervasoni, and Marco Momi, collaborating closely with each of them.
Furthermore, the ensemble has collaborated with several Italian Conservatories (Trento, Udine, Castelfranco Veneto, La Spezia), holding seminars on contemporary instrumental technique, composition workshops, and concerts.
The ensemble has been invited to perform in concert series and festivals such as the Cluster Festival (Lucca), Incò_ntemporanea Festival (Piacenza), Concerti al Museo del Novecento (Milan), Il Suono Festival (Perugia), Encuentros Sonoros (Seville), Polifonie Festival (Como), Società dei Concerti di La Spezia, Contemporary Music Festival of Bolzano, Sound Space Festival (Malmö), Savona Music Festival, ZZM Klagenfurt, Ascolta! Festival (Reggio Emilia), etc.
